Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives

The Archives is located in the Butte National Historic Landmark District, one block north of the Butte-Silver Bow Courthouse and is housed in a fire hall constructed in 1900 that is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Archives collects, manuscripts, records and photographs pertaining to the history of Butte and Silver Bow county. Our collections provide dynamic insights into the history of Butte. These records provide essential information on a number of subjects including labor history, history of women, mining and environmental history. Our reading room is open to everyone to research their ancestory, notable persons, buildings, mining history, and so much more. Our staff can make copies of documents for a minimal charge, or patrons are welcome to bring their cameras.
