Mileage: Approximately 183 miles.

Anaconda to Garrison (38 miles). Take Highway 48 to I-90 West. Continue on I-90 to Garrison Exit 175, exiting onto Highway 12 East to Helena. Garrison to Helena (45 miles).

Enjoy the scenic view as you travel through Avon and Elliston nestled in the valleys of the Helena National Forest. Stop on MacDonald Pass to enjoy one of the trails for hiking during warm weather, and snowshoeing or skiing during the winter months, or just stop at one of the lookouts to admire the beauty in all directions.

Continue on to Helena and visit Spring Meadow Lake State Park where you can enjoy the self-guided .8 mile nature trail with the birds, turtles and fish. It’s a great place to swim, kayak or picnic.

If you didn’t picnic at the Lake, head south out of town on I-15 and stop in Montana City for some lunch at the Montana City Grill & Saloon for some great food including Huckleberry Ribs and enjoy a view of the Elkhorn Mountains from the dining room.

After lunch stop in at Tizer Botanic Gardens and Arboretum just south in Jefferson City. Walk among the numerous high altitude plants, gnome gardens and upside down trees.

End your day with a dip in the Boulder Hot Springs or Fairmont Hot Springs.
