The Continental Divide is nearly impossible to miss as you travel across Southwest Montana. In fact, as you drive from community to community there is a good chance you will be traversing one of America's most inspiring geologic wonders. It's the birthplace of wild rivers that tumble west to the Pacific or east to the Atlantic. And if you crave adventure (or even just an incredible view), there is a path that traces its every twist and turn – the Continental Divide Trail.

This 3,100 mile trail that snakes from Canada to Mexico is no walk in the park, and yet the trail welcomes thousands of visitors each year. Along the trail, you will find incredible opportunity for day-hiking, picnics, scenic vistas and more. If you are looking for the adventure of a lifetime, you can join a few hundred of the most dedicated hikers who hike from one end of the trail to the other as thru-hikers.

Montana claims the largest share of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, with an 820 mile stretch along the rugged Divide. Continental Divide Trail Coalition

The Continental Divide Trail Coalition (CDTC) was founded in 2012 with the mission to “complete, promote, and protect the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. The CDTC will do this by building a strong and diverse trail community, providing up-to-date information to the public, and encouraging conservation and stewardship of the trail, its corridor, and surrounding landscapes.“ The CDTC provides a vast array of information regarding the 3,100 mile Continental Divide Trail including community information, thru-hiking, section hiking, trip planning resources and more!
