Christmas Strolling
December’s Christmas stroll season started strong this weekend with Ovando’s Old West Christmas Fest and Townsend’s Stroll on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s Cowboy Christmas Rendezvous in Augusta, and the Grant Kohrs Ranch Open House. But, be not afraid, for we bring you good tidings of great joy—Christmas Stroll season has just begun!
Philipsburg starts this weekend off on Friday, with Yule Night. From 4:00 to 9:00, downtown Philipsburg turns into a Christmas wonderland, with a spectacular lighted parade, pictures with Santa, and food and drink at all the local stores. Few places look as post-card perfect as P-burg decked out for the holidays. The town, you might know, is home to, among other lovely venues, Doe Brothers’ Soda Fountain, the Sweet Palace, the Philipsburg Brewing Company, and gem galleries galore! Philipsburg knows how to through a party, and this one promises to be as festive as they come.
From Philipsburg, head down I-90 for Saturday’s Christmas Stroll in Whitehall. The Whitehall Christmas Stroll on December 10th starts at 10:00 in the morning, and has enough things to fill the entire day. Visit the Christmas Market, then have lunch at the Veteran’s Chili Feed, take the kids to the Assembly of God church for Youth Crafts, and then to the Library to get a picture with Santa, take a Hay Ride, get back in time for the Christmas Tree Lighting (with hot chocolate and caroling!) and wrap up the evening with the Saddle Club’s wreath auction. An excellent way to spend a December Saturday, and if you get waylaid in Butte at the Christmas Bazaar and Trade Show, well, that’s ok too.
Our final featured event is the strolling-est of Christmas strolls. A two mile stroll up a mountain and then under it. Once again this year Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park is offering candle-light tours of the Caverns for six days in December. Think you’ve seen everything the Caverns have to offer? Well, these tours put the whole experience into a new light—a candle light. If you need extra incentive, think about this: the Caverns stay a balmy 50 degrees year-round, what a perfect way to get out of the December chill!
