Head to Washoe Park in Anaconda for an evening of The Merchant of Venice on Tuesday, August 25 at 6:00 PM.
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks returns for its 54th season, bringing the magic of live theatre to communities across Montana and beyond from June through September. With performances held under open skies and free for all to attend, this cherished summer tradition invites audiences of all ages to gather for an evening of storytelling, connection, and culture. This year’s tour features two beloved Shakespearean works -The Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing - reaching more than 60 towns across five states and creating unforgettable experiences beneath Montana’s iconic Big Sky.
This season’s The Merchant of Venice explores themes of justice, mercy, prejudice, and the longing to belong in a divided world. As Bassanio seeks Portia’s hand and Antonio enters a dangerous agreement with Shylock, Jessica risks everything to pursue love and independence beyond her father’s home. Blending romance with gripping courtroom drama, the play examines the cost of exclusion and the transformative power of compassion.
Directed by Kevin Asselin.
You can also catch Much Ado About Nothing the following evening, August 26, in nearby Philipsburg.
