Don’t miss The Merchant of Venice in Boulder on Wednesday, September 2 at 5:30 PM at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks returns for its 54th season, offering free, live theatre to communities across Montana and beyond from June through September. Staged outdoors beneath the open sky, this beloved summer tradition invites audiences of all ages to gather for evenings of storytelling, connection, and shared culture.
The season features two of Shakespeare’s most enduring plays - The Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing - as the company travels to more than 60 towns across five states. Each performance creates a memorable experience set against the expansive beauty of Montana’s Big Sky.
This season’s The Merchant of Venice examines justice, mercy, prejudice, and the longing for belonging in a divided world. As Bassanio seeks Portia’s hand and Antonio enters a perilous agreement with Shylock, Jessica risks everything to leave her father’s home in pursuit of love and independence. Combining romance with high-stakes courtroom drama, the play explores the consequences of exclusion and the redemptive possibilities of mercy.
Directed by Kevin Asselin.
If you love Shakespeare and want to catch another performance before the end of the season, head to Butte on September 7 for Much Ado About Nothing at Stodden Park.
