When it comes to fly fishing lodges, it is so nice to stay in one that Jim Bridger might have found comfortably familiar. This historic lodge was built of hand-hewn logs, as are the adjoining cabins. The main building has a wrap-around front porch overlooking the famous Madison River, only a fly cast away and of course, unlike Jim Bridger's days, all rooms have private baths.
Set in a grove of trees and adjacent to the historic Hutchins Bridge, recently included in the National Register of Historic Places, the Old Kirby Place fronts on a stretch of the Madison River which is well known for its spectacular trout fishing. Located near the western edge of Yellowstone National Park, we are less than an hour's drive from such notable fly fishing rivers as the Gibbon, Firehole, Gallatin and Henry's Fork.
Amenities include comfortable lodging, a hearty breakfast, lunch a relaxing happy hour (open bar and hor's devours) after a full day's activities, followed by a gourmet dinner served family style around a long pumpkin pine table in the lodge's great room. Frequent dinner guests include local fly fishing guides who enliven the inevitable fish stories. All beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are included in the rates.
