Description

The Homestake Lodge on Homestake Pass is best know for its nordic skiing. In the summer however, it is open for mountain biking free of charge. For someone interested in mountain biking for the first time this would be a good option. The trails are essentially just roads/routes that follow the winter trail system around the property. Since some of the trails aren't really graded roads they do have grass growing on them but they are mowed down in late July and are easy to ride. Pick up a trail map at the lodge and make the ride as long or as short as you want.

directions

Homestake Lodge is located just three miles off the I-90 Homestake Pass exit 233. Drive times from Bozeman and Helena are about 1 hour to 1hour and fifteen minutes. Missoula is just 2 hours away, and Butte is only a 10 mile drive away. Once you get off the Homestake exit, head to the south side of I-90 and turn onto FS 240. This will be straight off the ramp coming from the Butte direction, and it will be a right off the ramp and then a left turn after crossing over the interstate overpass coming from the Bozeman direction. Homestake Lodge is in the opposite direction from Homestake Lake/Campground, and Lake Delmoe. Drive down FS 240 for 3 miles (a sign for Homestake Lodge will be at the beginnning of the road). After 3 miles, you will go under the big electrical transmission lines and there will be a driveway on your right with another sign. This will be the road into Homestake Lodge.
