Come relive the adventure of the gold rush days in Nevada City, Montana. With its sister, Virginia City, Nevada City formed the core of the Alder Gulch diggings, the richest gold placer deposits ever discovered. A bustling town when formed in 1864, by 1869 the population had dwindled to just 150 people. By 1876, the town was virtually deserted. In the 1940s and '50s Charles Bovey moved his collection of old west buildings which he had gathered from across the state into Nevada City.

Today the town serves as an open air museum, with 108 authentic gold rush era buildings, fourteen of which are original to Nevada City. In addition, Nevada City offers elaborate living history reenactments that give visitors a taste of daily life in Nevada City, as well as the chance to relive monumental events from the city's past. Be sure to visit Nevada City's Music Hall, Charles Bovey's personal collection of antique automated music machines, the largest collection in North America. Stay at the Nevada City Hotel and dine at the Star Bakery or take the Alder Gulch Short Line to the dining, shopping, and lodging possibilities in nearby Virginia City.
