Experience the drama of The Merchant of Venice in Deer Lodge on Sunday, August 2 at 6:00 PM at the The Old Montana Prison Museum.
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks returns for its 54th season, bringing the magic of live theatre to communities across Montana (and beyond) from June through September. With performances held under open skies and free to attend, this treasured summer tradition invites audiences of all ages to gather for an evening of storytelling, connection, and culture. Featuring two beloved Shakespearean works - The Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing - the tour will reach more than 60 towns across five states, creating unforgettable moments under Montana's quintessential Big Sky.
This season’s production of The Merchant of Venice delves into justice, mercy, prejudice, and the desire to belong in a fractured world. As Bassanio pursues Portia and Antonio enters into a perilous bond with Shylock, Jessica dares to leave her father’s home in pursuit of love and independence. Blending romance with high-stakes courtroom drama, Shakespeare probes the consequences of exclusion and the redemptive potential of mercy.
Directed by Kevin Asselin.
Shakespeare in the Parks will be presenting a repeat performance of The Merchant of Venice in nearby Anaconda on August 25 or catch Much Ado About Nothing in Butte on September 7.
