The Myrna Loy
Listing Overview:
The Myrna Loy is a community-fired culture center and indie movie theater housed in a century-old county jail. The Myrna Loy inspires the creative spirits of people in and around Helena by presenting high-quality, culturally significant films and live performances; by supporting local and regional artists in their work; and by nurturing a lifelong love of the arts through education and residencies.
We show two first-run films nightly and performances of all kinds year-round. Happy hour in the Pub 4-6 pm weekdays!
The Myrna Loy takes its name from Montana's First Lady of Film, Myrna Williams, born August 2, 1905, in Radersburg, Montana, 40 miles southeast of Helena. Her father, David Williams, served in the Montana state legislature. At age seven, Myrna moved with her father, mother and brother to Helena, where they lived on 5th Avenue, a few blocks from the Lewis and Clark County jail. She would later become one of Hollywood's most successful actresses, with a whopping 129 films!
