ALTERNATIVE CHARGING STATIONS

In addition to the ever-growing list of formal EV chargers in Southwest Montana, we also wanted to take a moment to mention another source of very reliable electric vehicle charging to keep in mind when planning your trip - RV Parks.

There is a vast network of RV parks and campgrounds throughout the region, many of which have sufficient electricity to charge your car reliably! We have found that many campgrounds will list their availability for charging on platforms such as PlugShare and are usually accommodating to people traveling in EVs. You will more than likely need to be equipped with your own mobile charging cable with appropriate outlet adapters.

We recommend calling the RV park you are considering using ahead of time to make sure there is a space available for you to park. Please be aware that you may have to reserve a space that might otherwise be used for a camper or motorhome and that there may be a fee to use the space or the electricity.

We invite you to please be courteous to the park hosts and their policies. Kindness and understanding are part of the beauty of Montana!

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WHEN PLANNING AN EV ROAD TRIP:

With a little preplanning and resourcefulness along the way, we are sure that you will have a grand time while traveling in your EV!

  • If you are used to driving your EV in a warmer state farther south from us, you may find several differences when driving your EV in Montana. The weather, especially in the winter, can be very cold and taxing on your car and will reduce the range you get with each charge.
  • Your range will also be affected by the many mountain passes, rolling hills and higher elevations that are prevalent in Montana.
  • There is also no way of ignoring the fact that Montana is sparsely populated, and while the charging network is growing every day, the number of chargers is just not as high as it is in metropolitan areas.
  • We strongly recommend using various planning resources to plan your route and keep these factors in mind when traveling.
