The first East Helena Rodeo held in 1963, was sponsored by the VFW Post 10010. VFW members leveled the land donated for their use by the American Smelting and Refining Company; constructed the first rodeo arena and facilities and produced the first rodeo in the East Helena Valley. In the late 60's, many individuals joined in the efforts to keep a rodeo in East Helena and the East Helena Valley Rodeo Association (EHVRA) was formed.
The East Helena Valley Rodeo Association is made up of volunteers who aspire to see the sport of rodeo continue in the East Helena community. They strive to provide a safe environment for contestants and livestock to compete and display their skills and athleticism. Any profits from the yearly East Helena Valley NRA Rodeo held in July are used for the upkeep of the buildings, arena and the entire rodeo facility located in East Helena. Each year scholarships are awarded to Helena's High School Rodeo Team Members. Donations and sponsorships are also made to many community organizations.
The East Helena Valley Rodeo Association is a member of the Northern Rodeo Association and the Northern Women's Rodeo Association. The Northern Rodeo Association (NRA) sanctions approximately 40 rodeos each year in the State of Montana. The East Helena rodeo is one of the biggest and best NRA Rodeo in the State.
