Montana Shakespeare in the Parks returns for its 54th season, bringing free, live theatre to communities across Montana and the region from June through September. Performed outdoors under open skies, this treasured summer tradition invites audiences of all ages to gather for evenings of storytelling, connection, and shared cultural experience.
This season’s tour includes two of Shakespeare’s most celebrated plays - The Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing - with performances in more than 60 towns across five states. Each stop offers a distinctive experience set against the wide, open backdrop of Montana’s Big Sky.
In The Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare explores themes of justice, mercy, prejudice, and the desire to belong in a divided world. As Bassanio courts Portia and Antonio enters into a dangerous bond with Shylock, Jessica takes a bold step toward independence, leaving her father’s home in pursuit of love. Blending romance with tense courtroom drama, the play examines the cost of exclusion and the transformative power of mercy.
Directed by Kevin Asselin.
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will be in Whitehall the following evening, September 1, performing Much Ado About Nothing.
