Our mission is to preserve the past for the future. The Jefferson Valley Museum depicts the history and heritage of the Jefferson Valley and Whitehall. You can rediscover this rich history in our large restored 1914 red barn and outbuildings that house the thousands of artifacts from our past.

This area was once home to Native American tribes, fur trappers, miners and homesteaders who raised horses, cattle and produce. The valley served as a short route between the major mining camps of Virginia City, Bannack and Helena. By the end of the 19th century, the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived, followed by the Milwaukee Railroad, and life in the valley changed forever.

Besides our many artifacts, a collection of genealogy cards can help when working on family history. Historic photos and research material are also available.

Our museum is free for visitors. Donations are welcome and appreciated.
